MANILA, Philippines – The Petron Blaze Boosters finally got their first win of the PBA Commissioners' Cup after an 84-77 victory over the erstwhile unbeaten B-Meg Llamados Sunday at the Ynares Sports Center.
Import Nick Fazekas led all scorers with 23 points, and four Petron locals also scored in double-digits to help the Boosters, who started the conference with two consecutive losses.
Petron head coach Ato Agustin told PBA.ph that the team had a "bull-session" prior to the game and he was satisfied with his team's response.
"Everybody realized kulang ang tulong ng locals. In our first two games, masyado kaming focused kay Nick," Agustin said.
"They helped each other tonigt, thus, well-distributed ang puntos," he added.
Petron led by as many as 19 points and answered each B-Meg rally with a run of their own. It was the first loss for the Llamados after two straight wins to start their campaign.
Import Denzel Bowles had 22 points for B-Meg but he never got into a rhythm due to foul trouble.
Meanwhile, Arwind Santos finally got his game going, tallying a double-double of 10 points and 14 boards after Agustin moved him back to the power forward spot.
"We had good adjustments. Isa doon yung pagbalik ni Arwind sa fourth spot. Hirap s'ya sa number 3 (small forward) position," Agustin said.
B-Meg's star guard James Yap struggled with his shooting, finishing with 16 points on a five-of-17 clip. PJ Simon was the only other B-Meg player in double-figures with 12 points.
In the Petron side, Joseph Yeao scored 15 points, Alex Cabagnot and Denok Miranda added 12 points.
